Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, played in doubles on an enclosed court roughly a third the size of a tennis court, surrounded by glass and mesh walls that are part of play. Players use solid, perforated paddles rather than strung rackets to hit a low-pressure ball, with points won by grounding the ball twice in the opponents' side or forcing an error, including shots played off the surrounding walls. Invented in Mexico in 1969, padel has since become especially popular in Spain and Latin America and is one of the fastest-growing racket sports worldwide, played on dedicated padel courts such as the one referenced by this entry.
